The pumpkin spice latte – also known as the PSL – became a fall obsession as soon as it hit Starbucks in 2003.
In just a decade, Starbucks reportedly sold more than 200 million cups of the pumpkin-flavored drink.
The PSL took on a life of its own on social media with a hashtag, and Instagram page and even a Twitter account.
While Starbucks’ PSL is good, it’s only around for a limited time. It’s easy to make a pumpkin spice latte yourself, so you’ll never be without one again.
To make a pumpkin spice latte at home, first make the pumpkin spice syrup by combining:
- 1/4 cup pumpkin puree
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 tablespoon vanilla powder or pure vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons pumpkin spice powder
Next, make the latte.
- Heat up 1 1/2 cups milk (unsweetened oat milk suggested) until it begins to simmer. Be careful not to let it boil.
- While the milk warms, add 4 tablespoons pumpkin spice syrup to a mug.
- Pour 2 ounces of expresso or 1/4 cup brewed coffee over the syrup.
- Once warmed, add the heated milk and stir to combine.
- Top with whipped cream or garnish with pumpkin spice powder or a cinnamon stick.
